Witschge handed "considerable fine" for Sportweek remarks
29 May: Ajax has inflicted a "considerable fine" on Richard
Witschge, due to the remarks of the 31 year-old Ajax
midfielder in Dutch weekly magazine Sportweek.
Witschge made some harsh remarks about his conflict with
coach Co Adriaanse. He told the magazine that Adriaanse is a
"schoolteacher," adding that he does not want to talk to "that
guy" anymore and wants to go if Adriaanse is staying.
"Adriaanse can sink into the sh*t," Witshge concluded, a Dutch
slang expression, best translated as "go f*ck himself."
Ajax deliberately waited to fine Witschge until the season
was over. The club does not want to reveal the exact amount of
money Witschge has to pay. The club granted Witschge's request
to donate the sum to the children's clinic of Amsterdam's VU
Hospital, which is supported by Ajax.
Co Adriaanse responded in remarkably clear fashion to
Witschge's remarks. The coach left Witschge out of the Ajax-1
squad for the last game of the season, against AZ, but told a
TV reporter after the game: "Oh well, Richard Witschge is a
very impulsive guy. Both on and off the pitch. He bluntly says
whatever's on his mind. He doesn't give a sh*t, so to
speak..."
F-Side fans yelled Witschge's name throughout the home game
against AZ, but saw Witschge's direct replacement, Rafaël
van der Vaart, score two goals. (MP)
