Injury to keep Heitinga sidelined for six weeks
15 February: Only two days after Rafaël van der Vaart,
Ajax has lost a second youngster for a significant period of
time. Defender Johnny Heitinga (18) underwent knee surgery in
Amsterdam's V.U. Hospital today. His recovery will take an
estimated least six weeks, reports Ajax.nl.
Whereas Van der Vaart (19) sustained a little tear in the
inner cartilage of his right knee, X-rays showed a
similar little tear in the outer cartilage of Heitinga's
right knee.
If the estimated recovery time turns out to be correct,
Heitinga, who recently lost his position in the starting
line-up to Ferdi Vierklau, might miss no less than nine Ajax
games: against AZ (this Sunday, 17 Feb), NAC (24 Feb), Fortuna
Sittard (27 Feb), Feyenoord (03 Mar), the Amstel Cup semi final
against PSV (07 Mar, t.b.c.), De Graafschap (10 Mar), SC
Heerenveen (17 Mar), PSV (24 Mar) and perhaps Vitesse (31 Mar).
