Young Ajax vs FC Utrecht confirmed for 29 March
21 February: Young Ajax' Amstel Cup semi-final game against
FC Utrecht will be played in the Amsterdam ArenA on Friday, 29
March, kick-off 20:30 CET. This was confirmed by Ajax.nl today.
Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf already announced this
yesterday, adding that 29 March was was "almost certainly" the
new date for Young Ajax' historic semi-final. The second Amstel
Cup semi-final, between Ajax-1 and PSV, was already confirmed
for Wednesday, 06 March yesterday.
To learn about the reason why the semi-final games will not
be played as originally scheduled, read yesterday's news report about Ajax-1's
semi-final.
Ajax offers its supporters the chance to buy a 'double
ticket' for both semi-final games at the Amsterdam ArenA, for
only 19 euros (some $16.50). From 27 February onwards, 'one
game tickets' are also available.
The winners of the semi-finals advance to the Amstel Cup
final, scheduled for Sunday, 12 May in Rotterdam's De Kuip
stadium. Jan van Merwijk, director of Stadium Feyenoord (as De
Kuip is officially named), announced on 08 February, that his
stadium would happily allow the Amsterdam ArenA to host the
final if it turns out to be an 'all Ajax' event. Instead, the
pre-season match for the Johan Cruijff Shield (= Dutch Super
Cup, between the champion and the Amstel Cup winner) should be
played in De Kuip.
Newspaper De Telegraaf, however, announced that
Amstel Beer, main sponsor of the Amstel Cup, does not want the
final to be played in a stadium in which Grolsch Beer is
served. (MP)
