Wamberto extends contract until 2004
15 May: Ajax' left winger Wamberto has signed a new contract
with Ajax, which expires on 01 July, 2004. Included in the
contract is an option of extension for one more season. As
usual, Ajax has not revealed any financial details of the
contract.
Wamberto de Jesus Sousa Campos (27) joined Ajax at the start
of the 1998-1999 season. He made his Ajax-1 debut on 16 August
1998, in the game for the Johan Cruijff Shield (Dutch Super
Cup) against PSV. He since played 112 league games for Ajax, in
which he scored 25 goals. He also scored 7 goals in 9 Amstel
Cup games, 3 times in 16 European games and 14 times in 47
friendly games.
Wamberto started his career at Brazilian clubs Sampaio
Correira and Sao Luis. He then moved to Belgium, playing for
Liege sides Seraing and Standard, before signing a contract at
the Amsterdam ArenA. (MP)
