24 July: Ajax has signed right back Hatem Trabelsi to a
three year contract with an option for two more extra. The
Tunisian international had been on trial through last week,
including appearances in two pre-season friendly matches
against SV Vaassen and RKHVV, in which he played all 90 minutes
of both games and made a positive impression on the Ajax
staff.
Trabelsi (24) is 1.79 meters tall, weighs 81 kilo and is
therefore considered a physically strong player. "But his most
important asset is his speed," Beenhakker points out. "That's
very important in the way Ajax plays, because he's got loads of
space behind him."
On top of that, Beenhakker praises the attacking skills of
the Tunisian. Trabelsi started his soccer career as a right
sided striker and is said to have a good cross pass.
Beenhakker: "Since we changed our system from 3 to 4 defenders,
such an attacking defender is exactly what Ajax needed."
Right after signing the agreement, Trabelsi returned to
Tunisia to sort out his personal affairs. But he probably will
be back on the second day of the Amsterdam Tournament, when
Ajax plays against Liverpool. (BV)
