13 September: Most of the players on Ajax' extensive list of
injuries are almost ready to return in the Ajax-1 selection,
but unfortunately one new player has dropped out for a while:
striker Cedric van der Gun, suffering from a persistent knee
injury, underwent surgery on Wednesday in Amsterdam's AMC
Hospital and will need some three months to recover.
Van der Gun (22) sustained his injury during the last
training session before Ajax' Champions League away game at
Celtic FC. Apparently, th cartilage of his left knee is
damaged. The surgery was necessary to remove loose pieces of
cartilage from the joint.
Van der Gun joins Daniël Cruz and Petri Pasanen in
Ajax' "sick-bay". They are also unlikely to return before the
winter break. The good news, however, is that Tim de Cler,
Tomás Galásek, Andy van der Meyde, Pius Ikedia,
Kiran Bechan and John O'Brien are almost ready to return to Co
Adriaanse's squad. (MP)
