Ajax increases majority's stake in Germinal Beerschot
Antwerp
16 November: Ajax has decided to increase the club's stake
in Belgian satellite club, Germinal Beerschot Antwerp (GBA).
Ajax' stake already was a majority's stake (51%), but now holds
72.5% of the GBA stock. This increase was realized by
converting an unpaid loan to GBA into stock.
According to a report on Ajax.nl, the increase "guarantees
the continuity of GBA for this moment".
Ajax has a 51% stake in GBA since 16 May, 2000. GBA was
founded n June of 1999, as a continuation of Antwerp clubs KFC
Germinal Ekeren and KVV Beerschot. GBA is currently fifth in
the highest Belgian league, the First Class, and won the
Antwerp city derby against rivals Antwerp FC last weekend
(2-0).
Only one Ajax player is currently stalled at GBA:
South-African defender Aaron Mokoena wears the purple and white
of the Antwerp side. (MP)
