Wamberto breaks metatarsal, out for 2.5 months
04 February: Bad luck for Wamberto. Ajax's amicable
Brazilian winger (28) had to quit Tuesday morning's training
after he was painfully hit on the left foot. X-rays in hospital
made clear that he broke a metatarsal bone, which will keep him
sidelined for approximately 2.5 months.
Pipo, as Ajax fans have nicknamed Wamberto (after a
famous clown from an old Dutch TV series), seemed to have lost
his position in the Ajax-1 squad under coach Ronald Koeman, but
played surprisingly well in several winter break friendlies. He
seemed to be close to returning to the team. This metatarsal
fracture comes on a very unlucky moment for the Brazilian.
