Ajax announces part of 2004 pre-season campaign
08 March: While the 2003-2004 Eredivisie yet
has to reach its climax Ajax has already revealed parts of
its pre-season plans for next season. As usual the
Amsterdammers will go on a training camp in the village of De
Lutte, in the eastern Netherlands. Three friendly fixtures
against Dutch amateur outfits have also
been confirmed.
It will be the 31st summer in a row for Ajax to spend a
day or ten at Hotel De Bloemenbeek in De Lutte. Ajax's
traditional training camp in the village in the Overijssel
province will start on Monday 12 July. As usual Ajax will play
several amateur outfits from the area. Three friendly matches
have been confirmed so far:
- Tue 13 July: DOS '19 vs Ajax (in
Denekamp)
- Thu 15 July: SV Excelsior '31 vs Ajax
(in Rijssen)
- Sat 17 July: Zuidvogels vs Ajax
(Huizen)
According to the Independent Ajax Fanclub (OFA) the first
training of the season is scheduled for Monday 05 July at the
ArenA. Ajax's first friendly match will reportedly be
played on Saturday 10 July against an amateur club from
Amsterdam. Although Ajax.nl does not confirm this information
yet it is probably correct: Ajax's departure to De Lutte
is usually preceded by one week of training at the ArenA,
whereas the old tradition of playing an
Amsterdam amateur side on the first Saturday was
reinstated in 2002.
No further pre-season friendlies have been announced yet. It
is as yet unknown whether Ajax will once again play a couple of
fixtures in the United Kingdom, like in the last two
summers. (MP)
