Knee injury to keep Trabelsi sidelined for at least six weeks
23 October: The day after Ajax's win over Celta de Vigo
(1-0) it turns out that the Amsterdammers paid a price for
the three points: Hatem Trabelsi, who had to be replaced by
Nigel de Jong after 64 minutes, appears to have sustained a
minor tear in the medial ligament of his left knee. His
recovery is expected to take between six and ten
weeks.
In the second half of Ajax vs Celta de Vigo, the Tunisian
right back was hit on the knee by Spanish international
Juanfran and went down. He was treated by Ajax's medical staff,
behind the north goal, but had to be replaced.
Trabelsi will almost certainly miss all three remaining
Champions League group games, plus Eredivisie
fixtures against top opponents such as PSV (#2), AZ (#3),
SC Heerenveen (#4) and Feyenoord (#5).
Trabelsi was not the only Ajacied to leave the pitch injured
against Celta. Rafaël van der Vaart had to call it quits
after only 39 minutes of play. His injury, also sustained after
a hit against the knee, is not nearly as serious. "My leg is
all stiff", the Ajax captain said today, "but I don't think it
will be a problem for Sunday [PSV vs Ajax, ed.]. It's just a
minor bruise." (MP)
