Roda JC vs Ajax postponed due to death of Roda chairman

02 December: Ajax's Eredivisie fixture against Roda JC,
scheduled for Friday 05 December in Kerkrade's Parkstad Limburg
Stadium, has been postponed to Wednesday 21 January,
kick-off 20:00 CET. The reason for the cancellation is the
death of Roda's respectable chairman, Theo Pickée,
after a considerable period of illness.
Mr Pickée, 65, was a remarkable official in Dutch
football. He started working for Roda in 1980 as the
chairman of the club's newly founded sponsor pool, the
Roda '80 Foundation. He became chairman of Roda JC in May 1991
and continued to serve as such until the day of his death. He
celebrated his 12½ year anniversary last
month. Only a week ago he was chosen as the
first ambassador of Limburg United Voetbal, an new organization
that was founded in order to improve the co-operation between
the four professional football clubs from the province of
Limburg: Roda JC, Fortuna Sittard, MVV and VVV-Venlo. Mr
Pickée was also a member of the licence committee of the
KNVB.
Mr Pickée's funeral will take place on Saturday
at Mother Anna's Church in the city of Heerlen. (MP)
