Van der Gun loaned out to ADO Den Haag for rest of season

03 September: Cedric van der Gun moves back to his native city of The Hague, to the club he played for as a junior: ADO Den Haag. Ajax coach Ronald Koeman sees no future for Van der Gun in his squad. Ajax and ADO Den Haag agreed on a loan for the remainder of the season, for an - as usual - undisclosed fee.

It is the third time for Van der Gun  (born 05 May 1979) to be loaned out by Ajax. After having spent a short spell at FC Den Bosch in the last months of the 1999-2000 season (10 Eredivisie games) he was loaned out again last season, this time to Eredivisie side Willem II. He played 30 Eredivisie games and scored six goals for the Tilburg club.

In between he returned to the Amsterdam ArenA on instigation of head-coach Co Adriaanse. He made all of his 35 Ajax-1 appearances in total during the latter's reign. Van der Gun contributed nine goals to Ajax's production. His 'European' productivity is remarkable: Van der Gun played only three UEFA Cup games for Ajax, but scored four goals in them. The The Hague native also played 39 games for Dutch national youth teams, in which he netted eleven times in total.

This summer Ajax coach Ronald Koeman announced that he was going to give Van der Gun another chance to convince him of his qualities. Van der Gun was injured when Koeman arrived to Amsterdam in late 2001 and was loaned out the next season. Van der Gun played several games in Ajax's pre-season campaign of this summer, but failed to live up to Koeman's expectations and dropped back to Young Ajax.

Van der Gun started playing football in The Hague at local amateur side HVV, but was soon discovered by ADO Den Haag scouts. He played in the youth system for several years, after which he made the big move from The Hague's Zuiderpark to Ajax. He won the trophy for 'The Hague's Sportsman of the Year' in 2000, the year in which he made his Ajax-1 and Holland U-21 debuts - and scored several goals for both teams. (MP)
