Ajax land Brazilian left-footer Filipe on one year loan-deal
12 August: Three
days before the start of the Eredivisie Ajax has added an
extra player to the first squad: Filipe Luís Kasmirski
(19), left-footer of Figueirense FC from the
Brazilian town of Florianopolis, will come to the ArenA on a
one year loan deal. The contract includes an option for Ajax to
buy the player at season's end. The Brazilian, who uses his
first name Filipe as his 'football name', can play at
the same positions as his countryman Maxwell: left
fullback as well as left midfield.
Filipe (born 09 August 1985) drew the attention of Ajax's
scouts during this summer's Mediterraneo Cup in Barcelona,
Spain, where he played 12 games for Brazil U-20 and scored five
times, as well as the Toulon Cup in Toulon, France, where
he had five appearances for Brazil U-20. He has been a starter
for Figueirense's first team since February 2003. His total
number of first team appearanced currently stands at 70 (5
goals).
Ajax invited the player to Amsterdam, where he arrived on
Tuesday. He had personal talks with both technical director
Louis van Gaal and head-coach Ronald Koeman and underwent a
medical test in Amsterdam today. A working permit for The
Netherlands is yet to be issued by the Dutch government.
This provides the 1.82 metres tall
left-footer with enough time to fly back to Brazil,
so that he can take care of the formalities there, before
returning to Amsterdam.

Filipe is the third South-American player to
have joined Ajax on loan in the past ten days. On Tuesday 03
August the Amsterdam club announced the arrival of 19 year-old
Sebastian Rusculleda, left midfielder for Argentinian
powerhouse Boca Juniors. Three days later, on Friday 06 August,
Rusculleda was joined by his 19 year-old team-mate Gaston
Sangoy, a striker. Both Argentinians will not yet be added to
the first squad, but join Young Ajax.
Rusculleda and Sangoy impressed Ajax scouts at
Holland's two most prestigious summer tournaments for youth
teams: the Terborg Tournament in the eastern town of Terborg
and the Eurovoetbal tournament in Groningen.
Sangoy was the top scorer of both tournaments. The Terborg
Tournament is a 'hot spot' for scouts; Ajax discovered
Maxwell there in the summer of 2001. (MP)

UPDATE (01 September 2004): Ajax.nl confirmed today
that Filipe received his working permit for The
Netherlands before the closing of the transfer window. He is
now officially eligible for all Ajax games (KNVB and
UEFA). The only remaining condition for the transfer to
be complete is now out of the way. Filipe
Kasmirski is an Ajacied.
