Ajax Orlando hires Barry Hulshoff as new Technical Director
13 January: Ajax Orlando today announced the appointment of
Barry Hulshoff as technical director. Hulshoff fills the void
left by former technical director
Wim Suurbier, who parted ways with AOFC in 2004. Both men
were members of the 'Golden Ajax' of the early 70s and major
figures in Dutch football.
Hulshoff played for 11 seasons with Ajax and also figured
prominently in the 'Clockwork Oranje' Dutch national team of
the 70s. After his playing career Hulshoff coached and
developed curriculum for the Ajax youth academy program. In his
new position, Hulshoff will oversee training for all levels of
player development.
"Barry is one of the originals from Ajax Amsterdam's 'Golden
Era'. His experience as a player and coach in the Ajax system
is an asset to our entire organization and shows how committed
Ajax Orlando is to bringing Ajax soccer to the United States,"
stated Dart McCarty, youth operations director for Ajax
Orlando.
Hulshoff's career at Ajax Amsterdam spanned eleven
years, from 1966 to 1977, during which he won
six Dutch championships, five Dutch Cups, three European
Champions Cups, two European Super Cups and one Club World Cup.
Following his tenure with AFC Ajax, Hulshoff completed his
final three years of professional soccer with MVV
Maastricht.
His coaching career has included teams in Austria, Belgium,
Greece and Holland. In 2004, Hulshoff participated in several
Ajax Orlando summer soccer schools and camps in the United
States. (JM)
