Emanuelson signs extended deal until 2008
18 June: Ajax and Urby Emanuelson have agreed on the
terms of a new contract for the left fullback. By
penning his extended and improved deal the Ajax
youngster (19) committed to the Amsterdam club until the summer
of 2008. His previous deal with Ajax would have expired in
June 2006.
Urby Emanuelson (born Amsterdam, 16 June 1986) is a product
of the Ajax youth system. He made his official first team
début in the dramatic dying minutes of the UEFA Cup away
fixture at AJ Auxerre on 24 February 2005. Since his
début he had three Eredivisie and one Amstel Cup
appearance for Ajax-1.
Emanuelson is also a regular in the 'Young Oranje' (Holland
U-20) national team coached by Foppe de Haan. He is in the
Holland U-20 squad that currently plays the World Cup
tournament for U-20 teams in The Netherlands. Emanuelson scored
Holland's second goal against Australia (3-0) last
Wednesday in Kerkrade.
The fact that Emanuelson signed a new contract does not
necessarily mean he will play for Ajax next season. In today's
edition of Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf the players
reveals that five Dutch clubs are interested in landing
him on a loan deal. "One of them is AZ," Emanuelson said.
According to De Telegraaf Willem II and RKC Waalwijk
are two of the remaining four. (MP)
