No permanent contracts for South-American loanees

31 March: The three South-American youngsters currently playing for Ajax on loan will not be signed permanently. As per 30 June of this year, left-footer Filipe Kasmirski will return to Figueirense in his native country of Brazil, whereas midfielder Sebastian Rusculleda and striker Gaston Sangoy will move back to Argentinian powerhouse Boca Juniors. Ajax's general director Arie van Eijden confirmed the decision of the technical staff in newspaper Algemeen Dagblad today.

The three South-American loaneed were landed by Ajax in  ten days' time in early August of 2004, on the initiative of Louis van Gaal, Ajax's technical director at the time. Rusculleda (20) and Sangoy (19) were added to the Young Ajax squad. Filipe Kasmirski (20) already had first team experience and officially became a member of Ronald Koeman's Ajax-1 squad. He was seen by many as 'the new Maxwell'. It must now be concluded that their respective spells in Amsterdam have been disappointing.

Sebastian Rusculleda (born 28 May 1984) had a particularly unfortunate 'career' in Amsterdam. Due to various injuries he only had three league appearances as a substitute for Young Ajax so far. The only time he was more or less close to the first team was when a combination team of Ajax-1 and Young Ajax players took on the Ghanese national team in February of this year. Rusculleda started, but - typically - had to be replaced injured after only eight minutes.

His countryman and good friend Gaston Sangoy (born 05 October 1985) did considerably better: eleven league games (four goals) and two cup matches (one goal) for Young Ajax plus (only two days ago) a trip with Ajax-1 to a friendly six-a-side tournament, where Sangoy scored the winning goal for Ajax against FC Volendam. It was not enough to win a contract.

Ajax's decision to send Filipe Kasmirski (born 09 August 1985) back to Brazil is more surprising. The 'left-fullback with a forward drive' was an unexpected revelation at the South-American championship for U-20 teams, where he was a starter for Brazil U-20 and also scored a few goals. At Ajax he played eleven matches for Young Ajax, in which he scored once. He made his unofficial Ajax-1 début in the 14 December 2004 friendly at FC Barcelona and was on the bench of the first team a number of times.

Algemeen Dagblad reports that Ajax will also inform their other loanees about their future at the Amsterdam club in general, and their position for next season in particular. These loanees are Abubakari Yakubu (loaned out to Vitesse), Victor Sikora (loaned out to Heerenveen; tied to Ajax until June 2006) and Thomas Vermaelen (loaned out to  RKC Waalwijk, tied to Ajax until June 2007). The contracts of two other loanees (Pius Ikedia and Cedric van der Gun) will expire at season's end.

The contract of Rasmus Lindgren, who recently made the step from Young Ajax to the first team, also expires at season's end. According to reports in the Dutch press the Swedish midfielder has been offered a new three year deal. However, it is said that Lindgren only wished to sign if he will be in the first squad. His alternative is, possibly, SC Heerenveen. The northern Eredivisie club are said to be interested in Lindgren. According to Algemeen Dagblad the Swede has not made up his mind yet.

The only other expiring contract is that of Greek striker Yannis Anastasiou. Numerous Dutch and international news sources, including Sky Sports, reported in recent weeks that the veteran striker's deal will not be renewed by Ajax. (MP)
