Sikora loaned out to Heerenveen for one season
17 August: Victor Sikora has joined northern Eredivisie
side SC Heerenveen on a one season loan deal,
effective immediately. The left winger's contract at
Ajax will not expire until the summer of 2006, but Sikora
was recently told by head-coach Ronald Koeman that there
is no future for him in Ajax's first team.
Victor Sikora (born Deventer, 11 April 1978) joined Ajax
on 22 July 2002 and wore the Ajax jersey for two
seasons. However, he never lived up to the expectations at
the Amsterdam ArenA. He never secured a slot in the
starting line-up. In total he had 53 official appearances for
Ajax: 43 in the Eredivisie, 8 in UEFA competition and 2 in
domestic cup competition (Amstel Cup and Johan Cruyff Shield).
He scored six times in the Eredivisie.
Sikora's professional career started at Go Ahead Eagles from
his native town of Deventer. He was an Eagle for five seasons,
two in the Eredivisie followed by three in the First Division.
After 107 league appearances (34 goals) for Go Ahead Eagles he
moved to Vitesse in the summer of 1999. He would spend three
seasons in Arnhem, saw action in 89 Eredivisie fixtures and
scored 20 times. He made his début for the Dutch
national team as a Vitesse player and had six appearances for
Oranje in total.
His move to Ajax, in the summer of 2002, never brought what
Sikora or the club hoped for. Sikora himself was very well
aware of this. In a recent interview with Dutch football weekly
Voetbal International Sikora said: "My professional
relationship with Koeman was always excellent. He found it very
difficult to tell me that I can leave. He was the one
to buy me and he will be carpeted for it. I
apologized to him, for disappointing him. I really feel
sorry for Koeman: he will be lectured, whereas
I was the one who failed to deliver."
Victor Sikora underwent a medical test at Heerenveen's
Abe Lenstra Stadium this morning and will go in training
with the Frisian outfit tomorrow morning, Wednesday
18 August. (MP)
