Juanfran suspended for three Eredivisie games
07 April: Juanfran will miss the last three of this season's
34 'regular' Eredivisie matches. The Spanish fullback has been
suspended for three games by the KNVB on Thursday evening. He
was red carded by referee Roelof Luinge in the 02
April Eredivisie away game at Roda JC. If Ajax qualify for
the post-season play-offs Juanfran will be eligible again for
the first play-off fixture.
Juanfran was sent off in the 78th minute of Roda vs Ajax for
kicking Roda captain Gregoor van Dijk when the ball was already
out of play. Earlier this week Ajax and Juanfran turned down
a
settlement proposal from the KNVB for a suspension of four
games. After investigation by the KNVB's disciplinary
committee the Spaniard was eventually handed a two match
suspension on Thursday evening. His ban, however, has been
extended with a conditional suspension of one game
that has been open since October
2005, when Juanfran was red carded in a Young Ajax
match.
The official Ajax website, Ajax.nl, reports that the club
are considering to lodge an appeal against the verdict, but
have not decided on this yet.
In theory, it is possible that Roda JC vs Ajax on Sunday 02
April was Juanfran's very last game for Ajax. The Spaniard
joined Ajax on loan from Turkish giants Besiktas on
12 August 2005. The Amsterdam club has the
option to land the player on a permanent deal. Besiktas and
Ajax agreed that a decision had to be taken by Ajax before 01
April. This deadline, however, was made one month later in the
last week of March. Ajax will now have to take a decision
before 01 May. If Ajax fail to qualify for the play-offs and
decide not to offer Juanfran a permanent deal, his
appearance in Kerkrade was his last for the Amsterdam club.
