Krohn-Dehli to return to Ajax in summer
25 November: Michael Krohn-Dehli, who left Ajax for RKC
Waalwijk in
May 2004 on a free transfer and without a single official
first team appearance, will return to Amsterdam -- once again
on a free transfer. His deal at RKC will expire in
2006. The young Dane signed a deal from 01 July
2006 to 30 June 2009 at the Amsterdam ArenA today.
Michael Krohn-Dehli (born Copenhagen, Denmark, 06 June 1983)
played for the Ajax youth and Young Ajax from July 2000 to June
2004, after having played for Rosenhoj, Hvidovre and
Brøndby IF in his homeland of Denmark. The
versatile forward (Krohn-Dehli can play as a winger, a striker
or a 'number 10') was seen by many as one of the best
players in the Young Ajax crop that won the Dutch Reserves
Eredivisie in 2004 under coaches Marco van Basten and John
van 't Schip.
During the 2003-2004 season the Dane made his (unofficial)
first team début in the 14 October 2003 friendly at
Djurgårdens IF. Coach Ronald Koeman also granted
him playing time in the 07 January 2004 friendly at
Heracles Almelo. Krohn-Dehli was close to the first
team for a while, but never got to make his official
début. Ajax and the player then decided that there
was no future for him at Ajax and that it would be best
for Krohn-Dehli to move on. He finally made his Eredivisie
début at RKC Waalwijk and was a starter for them in the
2004-2005 season (31 league appearances, 2 goals).
He did not see Eredivisie action for RKC this season, due to
a persistent knee injury that has kept him sidelined since the
start of the season. Apparently, though, Krohn-Dehli passed his
medical at the Amsterdam ArenA without complications. The
Dane will finish the season in Waalwijk and then return to the
club where he seemed to have no future... (MP)
