Rasmus Lindgren to join Groningen permanently
03 March: Ajax midfielder Rasmus Lindgren, currently
loaned out to FC Groningen, will join the northern
Eredivisie side permanently on 01 July 2006. The two clubs
agreed on the transfer on 01 March. Lindgren's deal with Ajax
would have expired in the summer of 2007. FC Groningen will pay
an undisclosed transfer fee for the 21 year-old Swede.
Rasmus Lindgren (born Landskrona, Sweden, 29 November 1984)
signed his first Ajax contract in 2003, had a difficult start
with Young Ajax but developed into a key player for the Ajax
reserves and got to wear the captain's armband. He
made his first team début in the 13 February 2005
Eredivisie fixture at NAC
Breda. Lindgren, who is also a starter for Sweden's U-21
national team, had five Ajax-1 appearances in total. This
season he started the pre-season campaign as an official member
of the Ajax-1 squad, with a
renewed contract in his pocket.
In early August, however, it became clear that Lindgren was
not going to see much action. On
09 August of this year he was loaned out to FC
Groningen, where he became a starter and netted twice in 24
Eredivisie performances so far. Lindgren is having a wonderful
season with Groningen and will play against Ajax on Sunday 19
March, the first Eredivisie encounter between the two clubs at
Groningen's beautiful new home ground, Euroborg. (MP)
