Steven Pienaar accepts three games' suspension
21 April: The Eredivisie play-offs are over for Steven
Pienaar. The South-African midfielder was red carded by referee
Eric Braamhaar in the game against Feyenoord. The day after the
match he accepted the settlement proposal of the KNVB
prosecutor: a three game suspension, plus a suspended sentence
of another game.
Steven Pienaar was sent off in the 71st minute
of yesterday's encounter with Feyenoord. Nourdin Boukhari
was lying on the grass, apparently injured, but Feyenoord's
Dirk Kuyt did not play the ball across the sideline to allow
treatment. Pienaar them committed a harsh foul on Kuyt in
midfield, for which he was directly red carded.
KNVB suspensions for 'direct' red cards are for all
competitions. If Ajax make it to the second round of the
play-offs, Pienaar will be eligible again in the Gatorade
Cup final against PSV on 07 May. If Feyenoord manage to beat
Ajax on aggregate, last night's appearance was Pienaar's last
for Ajax. The midfielder will leave Ajax on a 'Bosman' at
season's end. He has signed a contract at Bundesliga outfit
Borussia Dortmund.
No less than three players were sent off in yesterday's
'Classic'. Feyenoord defender André Bahia, who picked up
two yellow cards, was suspended for one game. Romeo
Castelen, a winger for the Rotterdammers, accepted a settlement
proposal of one game's suspension. Both Feyenoord players will
be unavailable for the return leg against Ajax, this Sunday at
De Kuip. (MP)
