Boakye and Timisela move on to Eredivisie sides
18 June: Emmanuel Boakye and Michael Timisela, two young
defenders from the Ajax youth system, have left the Amsterdam
ArenA to sign contracts at Dutch Eredivisie clubs. Boakye,
who was already loaned out to Heracles Almelo this season,
has now joined the Almelo side permanently. Timisela, who had a
very disappointing 2006-2007 campaign after having made his
first team début the season before, penned a contract at
freshly promoted VVV-Venlo.
Emmanuel Boakye (born Ejura, Ghana, 25
March 1985) moved to The Netherlands in 1993, played for
amateur side Zuidvogels as a child and for the FC Utrecht youth
as a teenager. Ajax scouts discovered him in
2000. The right footed defender entered the
Ajax youth program in 2000, first playing in the
B1 youth team.
Boakye was added to the Ajax-1 squad in the fall of 2005,
made his official first team début on 24 September 2005
in the Eredivisie home game against Roda JC and did
particularly well in the succesful post-season play-offs, in
the Spring of 2006. Ajax
renewed his contract in April 2006 ('til 30 June
2008), yet decided to loan the young Ghanaian out
to Heracles Almelo on 10 August of the same
year. At that point, Boakye had played six
matches for Ajax in the Eredivisie, plus another four in
the post-season Eredivisie play-offs and one in the Dutch cup
competition, a total of 11 official appearances.
Boakye had a fine season in Almelo, where he was a starter
throughout the campaign. Yet, there is no future for him in
Henk ten Cate's squad. For that reason, Ajax decided to
allow Boakye to join Heracles permanently. The Amsterdam
club received a modest transfer fee for the young defender, who
had one season left on his Ajax contract and penned a
three-year deal with Heracles Almelo.
Michael Timisela (born Amsterdam, 05 May
1986) had made it all the way through the ranks of the
Ajax youth system when he made his official first team
début on 19 February 2006 in the Eredivisie home match
against RBC Roosendaal, replacing Hatem Trabelsi at right
fullback. One week later, at
Heracles Almelo, Timisela played from the start and scored
Ajax's decisive second goal in the 82nd minute.
That goal at Polman Stadium was the absolute highlight of
Timisela's career so far. He had two more first team
appearances, lifting his total to four, but then disappeared
from the spotlight. He saw no first team action in the
2006-2007 campaign. In fact, he was not even a certain starter
for Young Ajax in what was a bitterly disappointing season for
the young fullback.
On 12 June, VVV-Venlo (just promoted to the Dutch top
flight via the promotion/relegation play-offs) offered Michael
Timisela a chance to kickstart his career. The 21 year-old
signed a two season contract with the Venlo outfit, with
an option for VVV to extend the deal by an third
season. Timisela's Ajax contract would have expired on 30 June.
He joins VVV-Venlo on a free transfer. (MP)
