Heracles land Robbert Schilder on one-year loan deal
24 August: Two weeks after Heracles Almelo landed Ajax
defender Emmanuel Boakye on a
one-season loan deal, the club have snapped up another
Ajax youngster: midfielder Robbert Schilder moves to the Almelo
side, just like Boakye on loan deal until 30 June 2007.
Remarkably, Schilder was recently told that he could stay
with Ajax's first team, but the Amsterdammers apparently
changed their minds and decided to loan the youngster out after
all.
Robbert Schilder (born Amstelveen, 18 April 1986) joined the
Ajax youth at age thirteen. He made his first team début
on 08 February 2006, in the Eredivisie home game against Willem
II. So far, he had four appearances for Ajax-1 in official
games.
Schilder is originally a midfielder, but under
head-coach Danny Blind he also played as a left fullback
for Ajax-1. Henk ten Cate and his assistants, however, regard
Schilder as a defensive midfielder and feel that the player
should focus on that position. When it was decided to loan
Schilder out to an Eredivisie club, Sparta Rotterdam showed
interest, but they could not guarantee Ajax that they would
play Schilder as a midfielder. Heracles Almelo did
promise that, according to reports in the Dutch press. It was
reportedly the reason why Ajax opted for Heracles.
Just like Emmanuel Boakye, Robbert Schilder recently penned
a
contract renewal: he will be an Ajacied until the summer of
2009. At the end of the upcoming season he will have two
years left on his Ajax contract. (MP)
