Robbert Schilder signs new contract until summer 2009
03 July: Immediately after the first training of the
new season Ajax youngster Robbert Schilder (20) penned a
new contract, thereby committing to Ajax until 30 June
2009. The central defender (or midfielder), who had four
Eredivisie appearances for Ajax so far, will get the
chance to prove himself in the first team during the pre-season
campaign. It is not unlikely that he will be loaned out for the
upcoming season.
Robbert Schilder (born Amstelveen, 18 April 1986) is a
product of the Ajax youth system and played for Ajax youth
teams in many age categories. Last season he was one of the
better players in Young Ajax. On 08 February 2006 he made his
first team début in the Eredivisie home game against
Willem II. He spent the remainder of the season in the first
squad and had another three appearances.
"This contract renewal really means something," said
Schilder. "It proves that the club believes in me."
The youngster knows that he might be loaned out after the
pre-season campaign. "If I am unable to show that I am close to
the starting eleven that will indeed be an option.
Whatever the decision may be after the pre-season campaign,
I just hope it will be the best decision for me. A loan
spell can be very good for a player's development. There are
plenty of examples. I would prefer to stay here,
but that is not necessarily the best thing. It would be good
for me to play many Eredivisie games. It's going to
be tense, but the fact that I am standing here now,
signing my new contract, gives me a lot of confidence for the
future." (MP)
